Lil Bits 8/16 “Endo” and MACA

Over the years I’ve done “Lil Bits” i.e. . .  a few items I find interesting,  none of which is lengthy enough to merit a stand-alone post.  Just one  of my quirks.  Can’t help it, I like to share whether its a big deal or a little item for fun.



Research by the Endometriosis Association revealed a startling link between dioxin (TCCD) exposure and the development of endometriosis. Dioxin is a toxic chemical byproduct of pesticide manufacturing, bleached pulp and paper products, and medical and municipal waste incineration. The EA discovered a colony of rhesus monkeys that had developed endometriosis after exposure to dioxin. 79% of the monkeys exposed to dioxin developed endometriosis, and, in addition, the more dioxin exposure, the more severe the endo.

One of the best things we can do to ensure health, is to guard our body from toxins which come at  us in so many forms, so many ways.  Toxins poison us,  we then must find ways to cope with offsetting the problem. Since we don’t want “more” chemicals added to our burden – better not to allow in first place.  In this case – TOILET PAPER.  We gotta have it!  Use it every day.  (We maybe could go back to using cloth wipes, but our laundry chore could become very burdensome)  Check your labels at the market. Its the use of bleach  because of our preference for ‘white’ denoting purity which it turns out is simply an additional chemical to deal with and it hurts our body.   7th Generation is wonderful, but quite costly.  Quite often store brands can be adequate, i.e. here in Ohio, we have a Kroger product which competes with Seventh Generation for a lesser price.  If budget allows, go for unbleached — it’s tannish color can be quite pretty and unexpected.

As to the pesticides,  we’re all on our own.  Thoroughly rinse fresh produce (which isn’t organic) in some water to which  some Vitamin C Crystals have been added, let stand a bit. .  can off-set.   Also helpful, unless one needs a full-on body-cleanse for a major problem,  can do a bit of research online entering diatomaceous earth for one, and/or  bentonite clay for a second option.  I have and use both at different times for many things.  Either one absorbs immensely for which they are both well-known.  Organic and natural (earth-grown). The clay is fabulous for skin – to restore and beautify as in masks or packs, etc.  Magic for taking pain away from various mean, painful bites (using even now as have been under attack by some thing I’ve never seen before – slug ants;. . .  almost microscopically small little ochre-yellow things  that you can barely see, but they move, so I know its not just o blob of dropped  oil or food.  And they migrate around the house.  Out of the powder, made a kind of gel and I dab on. my bites – takes down the pain and swelling and redness.

When think you might die from diarrhea  — just take bentonite clay, it’ll stop it, give relief and time to heal.  Great stuff.    I’ve raved about the D.E often; kills ants, fleas (sprinkle into carpet near doors and points of entry.  Good stuff.  Taken internally, these powders can absorb -(gather into itself, absorb,) then carry away and out your system.

What’s   Maca Root Powder  good for?

Botanical Name:  Lepidium meyenii

Maca is a root vegetable which grows in the high, harsh climate in the Andes Mountain in Peru. For over 200 years, Maca roots have been an important traditional food as well as medicinal herb to the natives of the region. Maca is the relative of radish and has the odor similar to that of butterscotch. Maca root contains many ingredients, including fatty acids and amino acids. Due to this configuration, this root is  often  highly used dealing with anemia, chronic fatigue syndrome and enhances the energy, stamina, memory and fertility in people. Women use this root trying to correct hormonal imbalance and menstrual problems. Also Maca roots help in the treatment of leukemia, HIV, stomach cancer and other major diseases.

In the field of agriculture, this root is used to increase fertility in livestock. Maca can be taken roasted, baked or as a soup.  ( See more at:

But I use it for a different purpose; its in a candy recipe I got from John at Learning Herbs. I glommed onto it, not because I’m a sweets lover, but I AM  a chocoholic, have been my  whole life.  See, I won’t eat just any chocolate, I crave deep, dark “real” chocolate, not the sugar.  And for a few years now, I only buy this glorious FERMENTED chocolate from  WILDERNESS FAMILY NATURALS (.com)  Buy it by the 5# bag and have been using a couple of spoons full in my morning shake (along with a ton of other stuff).  This  is the best chocolate I’ve ever ingested.  $35.00/5# may sound high, but it lasts me a long time and truly genuine good chocolate IS very costly.  The smell alone is to die for. . very heady fragrance. I know I put this recipe up somewhere, but don’t know where it is. So I’m gonna give it to you again.  The recipe is given in grams and ounces, but I’ve tried to measure and equate that for you (except for the cacao butter. . neglected to do that one).  Anyway, this is one more thing one can do with MACA ROOT POWDER   enjoy. . .       Jan



130 grams of cacao butter
70 grams of raw cacao powder  1 CUP
15 grams maca root powder        2 T
5 grams cinnamon powder          Rounded T 
Honey to taste (I use a dollop from a tablespoon)
2 – 3 tablespoons of cacao nibs . .  . 
(I didn’t use the nibs  instead, I chopped macadamia nuts & sprinkled on top)

Silicon molds (ice cube trays may also work) . .used a 12” square glass dish w/parchment paper to ease removal.

1. Place a small amount of cacao nibs  in the molds  (see  Macadamia nuts  see above ) 

2. Cut the cacao butter into small chunks,  melt the cacao butter over a double boiler.

3. Add the Honey to cacao to slightly melt as well — easier to mix into a smooth concoction later)

4. Once the cacao butter has melted entirely, add the cacao powder and herbal powders. Stir well. 

5. Add the honey. Stir well.    

6. Pour into molds that have been sprinkled with cacao nibs and let harden. This takes a few hours at room temperature. ( or just put in Frig)

Since I never made candy before. . much I don’t know. . had a hard time cutting the ‘set’ mass into pieces. Good no mater what it looks like — I promise you.   And so healthy!  High magnesium and so much more.
