Ready? November’s coming

Okay, it’s VOTING SEASON, You and I are Needed!

Guess I really don’t know how my fellow Bernie-followers are doing right now because as I’ve opined recently,  the zest for this political season pretty well left me pulling the covers over my head.   Simply couldn’t take any more.  Can be kind of a dichotomy to keep the fire of patriotism and love of country going strong while being so disenchanted with the status quo.  When Bernie spoke he seemed to be reflecting the cries from my heart,  which was so fed up  with all the corruption in politics, and the refusal  of anybody in Washington to actually serve the needs of our own masses — our working people who have been falling further and further behind while the politicians and corporate structure got richer and richer.

I know Bernie wasn’t going to change the world, nor could he probably have realized ALL that he and we aspired to for all of us, but his was the voice which came closest to what our people really need, i. e. ..truth,  ethics and integrity  —  along with justice for everyone and responsible concern for how our people are faring regarding modern realities of education,  medical care that’s worth something and an equitable justice system. .  .  .  all of which have become ruined by the fact that our government leaders (federal and state) view all of them  as just another way to make money.  All of this must change or our country is done for.  Starting with ALL equal before the law — the privileged should not get off Scott-free because they can “buy” better outcomes,  nor should the wealthy get off TAX-free as they do now, allowing them to use all that excess wealth to make even more wealth for them. . . for that is a story which has no end and is hopelessly unfair.  A look at Bernie’s entire life revealed the sterling character of the man.  The character one desires for running  a nation.  But all gone now, and we all know why.  It was signed, sealed and delivered before the race even began.  Not just the Clintons – – it’s the whole thing.  The structure of the hugely established power base in our capital – – they’re NOT giving up their cushy jobs. . everybody wants to protect the status quo.  IT PAYS WELL.

Okay, I’m not still hibernating,  nor did I lose all my marbles during my pity-party of grief.  Just stopped with the 24-7 TV shows.  I tape Rachel Maddow and Morning Joe on  MSNBC and have a couple of Favs @ CNN.  Now I just touch base a little. Not as if one actually has a choice!  Is it?

For me it is cut and dried.  (Tho, I used to consider myself a Republican).  I’m pretty well a Dem now.    So, it’ll have to be Hillary.  I take no joy  in this at all. I have admired all the women leaders our world has been smart enough to establish as leader.  We will do the same.  Hillary is smart, no one can deny that.  She’s tuff and gritty. I do not like her, nor am I pleased to put a check by her name as president. While she is NOT an overt liar, she is deceitful, not forthcoming and I don’t like her; she clearly feels entitled — a quality I dislike in anyone. In keeping with those thoughts, I also feel she is too hawkish, consequently. . . worry about where she might be taking us.  Hillary is who we have.  I’ll hold my nose and do it.

If one admires brilliance, ethics, integrity, humility and clear-headedness – – – there is no way in hell one could vote for TRUMP!. He is not an idiot, he just sounds like one.  He is rude, crude, vulgar, flat-out deceitful with full-on, recognized lies.  His ego is without bounds sad to say. . . as no one else will ever be a concern to the Donald.  He serves only his own needs with total disregard for all others.  He is actually,  a disgusting man.  He is not fit to be considered to run for president!  All the dumb, stupid things he blabbers on about are so “un-American”  > he could be charged with perhaps many and assorted character flaws.  .  .   a danger to our American way of life.  He is worse than crying “Fire” in a theatre!  He instigates turmoil, not healing cooperation.   Next, there’ll be riots!   Hillary should not lower herself to debate him.  It would be a sham.

But Trump has not destroyed the Republican party!  The Republicans did that to themselves over the last decade or so. And they all seemed to get a kick out of it when Trump emerged — whoopee! Had there been any true leaders left in the party, Trump couldn’t have happened.   Ryan is a decent man, surely if he put on his thinking cap, he could come up with a legitimate course to disqualify this man.  Look to ethics and morality for God’s sake . .the causes are obvious why he shouldn’t be the nominee. . . it shouldn’t be limited to an item written in some book a couple hundred years ago (like one must be 40 years old).  How about common sense?  Build a case — there’s enough evidence floating around now about his unsavory dealings and ripping people off.  Or you could just leave it alone, he’ll self-destruct as his diet of adoration wanes.  He can’t seem to take being ignored.     So who should we blame?  The big Media conglomerates – for sure.  They built this monster and they did it for free.

This too,  shall pass.  We lost this race, but we can save the day.  Just remember to pay especial attention to all the down-line races open to be voted on.  Checkout the senators and congress-people running.  Question them- big time and tell them what you want.  Had one here in Ohio from the Cleveland area  – SITTENFELD.  Was so impressed with him. (like Bernie, only 40 years younger);  Democratic party wouldn’t allow him to even debate (but I’m not going into that again.  Except that, since they don’t support me and what I want, I refuse to support them.) I believe Bernie is going to be helpful on that score,. . . to help us move along in the right direction for the things WE WANT AND NEED.    Buck up, it’ll be over soon.    and all is NOT LOST!        Jan

What about “IRON”?

We need enough IRON, but not too much

Some don’t get enough ‘iron’ in their diets and therefore tend to anemia.  This can be problematic;  should be discovered by the one’s doctor and easily treated.  I was one such, but never treated for it.   Classic hormonal symptoms, among which were nearly bleeding-to-death every month during menses . . . never had the feeling that my docs believed me on this.  Eventually connected with a doctor/healer who directed me to eat some beets everyday and to NOT take iron in supplement form – useless, not what body needs.  So I did.  Had to find ways to tolerate them.  Was easier than I thought.  Bought canned julienned beets and added to daily salad.  Also learned how to make beet borscht which I totally love – still do.  So, in my case, because of what was going on in body (quite apart from my healthy eating habits),  there was a special need for more iron.

Now, go  forward a few decades, when there is no more hormonal cycle to fret over. . . no more bleeding.    Donating blood at the RED CROSS not only helps save the lives of others, but releases whatever too-muchness one’s own blood may be dealing with.  Aging bodies can (seemingly) get thicker, slower and are frequently given Coumadin  (blood thinner),  and so on.  (I was for maybe a decade).  However I was a reluctant patient and hated taking rat-poison, so,  in time — I quit it.   Hopefully, any of us can grow, learn. . .wise-up.     Anyway, it’s a good thing to do..

                                                                          *                                    *                                    *

Even tho we all try to limit our exposure to gobs of email due to time factors, information-overload and so on,  I do like to receive well-thought out info from quite a few sources and Kamal Patel at is one such,  for they do it right, .  . in depth.   In this case, its about pots – big, CAST IRON pots and pans.   I have and use a regular size big cast iron pan which I’ve had forever and used to have a mini one as well, but must have lost or loaned it out.  They are convenient and almost indestructible. . . fairly cheap.  Years ago I used to cook with Descoware, I think it was called.  But there were many other companies who made this type of cookware,  too.  It is cast-iron base, but also enameled over the iron. (red – all colors).  So costly,  but divine to cook with.  Gave it all up when I travelled as these guys are HEAVY and would weigh a ton to transport.  But I’ve picked up a few here and there.  Admittedly, they area a nuisance to handle by aging wrists. But nothing else cooks as well as these lovely tools. Almost every thing one needs to know, you can find below:      enjoy,  Jan

Are cast iron pans unsafe?

With Teflon pans being used less and less, hefty cast iron seems to be the hot new thing … even though it’s also one of the oldest types of pans.

But just because cast iron is natural and has been used for eons, doesn’t mean it’s totally safe. We looked at all the available evidence behind potential risks, to give an alarmism-free perspective on cast iron safety. Whether you’re a cook or just like to eat, check out this in-depth review!

Many thumbs on the scale

Bernie, there were BIG thumbs on the SCALE

In a sense I feel like wearing black and drawing the shades.  Not just the wind-out-of-my-sails feeling;  actually worse.  I know better than to cave like  this. ..its bad for me, my body, my health and life — negates who I am.  Overwhelm can be like this.  The infernal “why” rears up and can’t be ignored.  I was emotionally, deeply invested in an outcome I so cared about and trusted, had faith in.  All washed away in a blink of an eye last Monday before the 5-state voting (including California – where I’m from) on Tuesday,   as announcement was made that Hillary had now become the designate winner in the Democratic party;  her numbers were conclusive!  Its as if there was this giant national THUD and it shook my world. Slammed me down.

How could this happen?  It had been agreed that no winner would be called until the convention in July after all states had voted, been included. If it was over, why would anybody bother to go out and vote on Tuesday?  The Tuesday results  bore that out.  My heart went out to Bernie who had to be suffering;  he had given so much for so long, created a magnificent movement of optimistic, eager, believer/activists who trusted him so completely — loved him.  Who did this?  Why?  How does such a thing happen?  This is not an accident.  As I forced myself to listen to the newscasts I began to hear things I hadn’t heard before,  .  .  forced to recognize the meaning.

Bernie claims he had been assured  the White House had no thumbs on the scale in this process, they were neutral. (I don’t believe that). When I heard that President Obama was very close to Debbie Wasserman Schultz (she had been influential to his success), claiming “she had my back, now I’ve got hers”.  . .  I didn’t need to hear more.    Sometimes, one has to just pull the covers over the head and let go.

You may know know by now how highly I regard Bill Moyers and Company.  He has always been an honest truth-teller, no matter how hard it is to hear.   So,for what really is going on, read the following:             Jan

Wasserman Schultz Has a Change of Heart, But We Say: Too Little, Too Late

By Bill Moyers & Michael Winship

She had become a symbol of the failure of Democratic elites to understand that there is an uprising in the land. Millions of Americans are rebelling against the leadership of both parties. They are fed up with inside-the-Beltway politicians who pay only lip service to the deep needs of everyday people and the country; fed up with incumbents who ask for their votes, are given them in good faith, and then return to Washington to do the bidding of the donor class and its lobbyists. …

So [at July’s convention,] take the planks in the platform and the platitudes and promises in the speeches with a grain of salt. It’s all about the money.

Except when it’s not. Except for those moments when ordinary people rise up and declare: “Not this time!”

Which brings us back to predatory lenders and their buddy, Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Medical RULE must STOP

Medicine CAN help, but also HARMS

We are told  that Heart disease is the #1 killer of people currently; that medical error, thru one means or another is #2.  Imagine, between mistakes in medical practice  and/or pharmaceutical errors,  we suffer greater risk than from most diseases or personal activity.

I’m not against science — heaven forbid!  Nothing but perpetual admiration for brilliance of mind and creativity whether it be functioning in the sciences, arts. . space, whatever.  Progress, advancement and betterment of life on our planet is better off with all of it.  Outcomes are important. And of course, Medicine at it’s core is an admirable thing. . . or was, when its motive was to relieve suffering and restore health to broken parts.

Few  would argue that the availability, use and quality of what most are experiencing under the name of medicine leaves much to be desired. I reject that most physical maladies are idiopathic (they don’t know what causes it). Thus falls under the subject of MEDICINE, is taught in very costly schools over many years — to most aspirants at great sacrifice.  So many years and so little understanding?  The focus now isn’t so much the physical/biological causation of malfunctions which occur, but instead, based on symptoms — which medicines one should prescribe to “handle the symptoms” without knowing cause. This results in becoming a captive ‘patient’ to an endless stream of medications.  All good for the business of medicine. For individuals such as me, this is unacceptable.  There are many alternative, extremely efficient practitioners among us who have schooled themselves beyond the usual 8 to 12 years in effort to learn “why” their patients don’t get well.  It is with these forward thinkers my attention lies.  So very many have been showcased here on “smokinchoices.”  From so many of these, I’ve learned how to help myself.  I do realize that not everyone is able or willing to do likewise.  We are all different as are our expectations

Today, the working class can ill afford medicine; not the deductibles, the monthly fees or co-pays,  let alone the cost of medicine. This speaks to the shrunken middle class that can barely afford to live with stagnant wages (those who still have a job) and the rising cost of everything. How many?   Millions!   Not delving deep here — only touching with broad strokes on issues to make the point of how underserved the middle class is  with regard to medical care in the USA.  Essentially,  we can’t afford health care and most are doing without.  When you see a doctor, drugs  are given, which are chemical in nature (synthetic) and generally toxic, with side effects which further offend our over-burdened  body. Since cause is not known or treated, the issue is not resolved,  so we don’t get better.  Won’t drone further about our nutrient-lite foods, sterilized soils, etc.

My point is primarily that in our current times, few have a good chance at true health.  We don’t eat properly to actually nourish our body so that it CAN  be healthy  One needs a larger income to be able to buy “organic” food.  We need clearly defined, scientifically based evidence to make informed decisions about what to eat.  For years we’ve been told all the GMO’s and genetically engineered food-stuff they sell us is just the same- no difference. In last week or so  – a further declaration on the subject claiming all this is SAFE, no difference.  End  of story, so just put to bed all the grumbling.  Doctors are refusing to care for the children of families who refuse vaccinations,  so there is also the burden of being forced  to do  terrible things to our children — depriving them and our selves the expectation of normal, healthy, happy lives.  60 – 70 years ago one rarely ever heard of Autism and other dreadful neurological disorders..  40 – 50 years ago it was perhaps 1 in 10,000  children so affected.  With increasing vaccination of all types we now have horrific levels of autism occurrence of  1 in 45 in just 40 years according to some doctors records. How is it that educated minds can’t see disparity in these numbers?  Our gene pools haven’t failed us.  It is so evident that our toxic environment is altering the natural function of our perfectly designed bodies. Amalgam in teeth, toxic chemicals in vaccines; agricultural products, GMO seeds, toxic BIG PhRMA, chemicals in dental care products, cosmetics,  .  .  and on an on . . .and   on

It is criminal what is being done to our people in the name of medicine. Lives are ruined.  There is no recourse. As in the entire corporate world, money and power rule the day.  Establish rules and government regulation with what everyone knows is corruption.  Our rights as citizens  have been eroded for the so-called  “common-good”  which most of us would totally condone as a valid  principle. But this is not that!  This is the corporate structure dictating how and what should be done. . .rather like the  Nazi’s Gestapo and it is being done for profit without the benefit of proof of safety.  There has never been ANY proof.  But there has been much cover-up.   It’s pretty much the same picture with the pesticides, fungicides and other poisons used throughout the world – – in the name of science, progress through chemicals.  But we are destroying our world and our lives with  our ruined health and suffering.    The following is an article  which tells a fairly disturbing story, with a full description of how some of it has worked.  Please read it and be informed.   Its about all we have going for us. . .becoming informed.  (I’m still crying over Bernie, who couldn’t be bought.  That they would do that to him before all the states had a chance to vote – especially California.  if Bernie has lost- why vote?)  Jan

This is from COUNTR PUNCH,   very well done

Pestiides, Birth Defects and Brain Damage in Children

The recent number of articles in the popular press concerning loss of intellect among children exposed to chlorpyrifos is important in the use of this pesticide. Although in-home use of chlorpyrifos was restricted in the U. S in 2000, it is widely used in agriculture, and is a serious risk to health and intellect for people working and living in proximity to fields. Detectable levels of chlorpyrifos detected in New York City children, raises the question of exposure via food. Across the U. S. we learn that students are doing poorly in school, often blaming the teachers and their unions. Are teachers no longer competent to teach or have……/pesticides-birth-defects-and-brain-damage-in- children/
