Ferment own Yogurt

EASY DIY (really good) YOGURT

Fermented foods are tops on my list for health promotion.  I just put-up a batch of fermented veggies a few day ago, and can hardly wait;  so cold now, it’ll probably take about 10 to  12 days.  Three huge jars are in my Coleman food container in the pantry.   First time I made them some years ago, I had set them on the top shelf in pantry where I knew they’d be safe and out-of-the-way.  Pressure builds in those jars and I didn’t know that, but I sure found out the hard way. . .but thats a whole other story.  There’s more than just veggies to be done, dairy can be excellent. .as in kefir and yogurt.  There are excellent books written by experts on fermenting.  While I’m no expert,  I  know  how to ferment and have posted  my how-to (several times) and showcased others, over my 8 years

But what I  want to discuss now is simple, delicious (and kinda expensive when you buy it in the stores)  organic yogurt.  I say ‘organic’ because we start off with a quart of good, rich WHOLE  (my preference) milk from cows which have presumably been allowed to graze on grass.  This however, works with low-fat or skim milk as well, it just won’t be as rich.   You’ll  pay more for organic  because they are fed right,  not subjected to GRAINS. .  . they move around.  Of course RAW would be my preference, but haven’t found an access for raw in years.   A word about that fat;  hope all have learned that GOOD FAT is really GOOD for US!  Coming from organically grown and fed farms.  Same with butter.  DO use butter, coconut oil,  extra virgin Olive oil, but STAY AWAY from those oils (so-called vegetable oils which have been heat processed) . . e,g. corn oil, canola, etc.  And of course, eat eggs.  If you’re eating right, you should be consuming mostly  fresh, organic produce – veggies and fruits (up to 85%).  This insures that you indeed do have all your vitamins and MINERALS,  so the body being well nourished will be able to properly utilize that cholesterol (which especially, the heart and brain need)  Anyway, full-fat milk tastes  so much better.  

THE PROCESS

Back to the Yogurt,  making it today is still about the same as it was thousands of  years ago  The same principles are involved and haven’t changed, with the exception of flavoring variations with fruit, etc., as so many prefer today.  Over the years we’ve been told how precise the  process is and encouraged to buy specialized yogurt-machines, etc.,.  But no special equipment is necessary. . . thermometers,  . .  . or starters, . . . or recipes.  It starts with a spoon or two of starter which is as simple as saving a teaspoon or two from your LAST BATCH to begin  your new batch.  If haven’t made it before, just buy a good one in health food store or one you trust in  any store — save off this small amount to make your new batch.  We add this starter to a quart of  your choice of milk, bearing in mind that whole fat milk produces richer, thicker yogurt.   The process in loose terms is  to heat the milk until little bubbles start to form around the edges of pot; then remove from heat and let it cool  slightly.  A heavy enameled casserole can be used for the whole procedure or can heat in a pan and transfer to a crockery bowl which  is helpful as the temperature should be maintained while it sets and crockery retains the heat well.    Next add some milk to the leftover yogurt slowly, gently stirred, then add rest of milk until fully blended — over-stirring results in liquified, sour results.  Put a lid on your container and wrap in towels, or paper or blanket (to maintain warmth) of approximately 115 degrees   and let it rest for 6 to 8 hours

THE TEMPERATURE

Once the almost boiled milk cools a bit, use your pinky finger dipped into the milk to test for temperature;  This is all you need — your pinky is your thermometer.  The temperature is right when it feels very warm, but is not so hot you can’t leave your finger in it.  That’s good enough.  Keeping the temperature constant as it sets is actually the only hurdle, our variations in  living temperatures of most kitchens being what it is.   115 is desirable for 6 to 8 hours.  If culture goes below 95 or above 120 degrees – – the culture is killed.  Hence your mental calculation of your own temperature of the place it will sit to develop, and whether to use towels, paper or blankets to maintain the constancy.  

RECAP

Ingredients:  1 quart milk    1 Tablespoon yogurt        Process:  Bring milk slowly to almost a boil in saucepan.  Remove from heat – cool to slightly warmer than  luke-warm or 115 degrees on candy thermometer.  Blend small amount of milk into yogurt starter in a one quart jar or bowl.  Gradually stir in remainder of milk, blending gently and slowly (don’t whip or over-stir).  Cover, wrap with heavy wool or blanket;  let stand 6 to 8 hours in draft-free place until set.  Makes one quart.

HONEY YOGURT:  stir 2 tbsp honey into yogurt before adding the milk to it.

VANILLA YOGURT:  Stir 2 tsp vanilla into yogurt-milk mixture before wrapping.

P.S.   Came by to see how this post looked to me — not gathering much attention, it seems.     This  process works really well, but maybe I didn’t include enough  of my own experience with it so that you’d understand that I’m not just throwing some odd recipe at you.    This entire blog is primarily about H E A  L T H  !    But also economy and how to make our lives better on so many levels.  I found these few old recipes going back to 1977 and 1963, clipped from my newspaper in California.  (have admitted to my pack-rat tendencies).  Honestly, I had forgotten about them.  Back then, I wasn’t as big on yogurt as I am now,  but wanted to save them anyway,  just in case.   Maybe  25 years later, when I was into  yogurt, wanted to try making it, so I bought the yogurt maker and after repeated  disappointing trials and effort – just abandoned the  idea.  It was either too hard for me, or I was somehow no good at it.  Whole milk yogurt goes for $3 – $4 easily and more if organic;    so making this DIY at home is just logical.

The results are XLNT.  No longer have to chase to Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods.  Don’t know why I didn’t tell what/how I do it.  Couldn’t be easier, tho,  anybody could improve on my peculiar, over-done way of doing it.   I heat the milk in a rather large stainless-steel pot (slowly) until the little bubbles form, then set aside.   I use my crock pot  as it fits the requirements of the  recipe so I pour the  really warm milk into it and put lid on.  Have already measured out a tablespoon (rounded) of yogurt into a porcelain one-cup (+) size mixing bowl and added the honey and slightly mixed them together.  Periodically try the pinky test referred to above.  Cool down can take 10 to 20 minutes. Then ladle approx. 1/4 cup of milk into the yogurt and gently, slowly stir.. .then add a little more, stir again.  Next I add the yogurt in the smaller container to the crock pot.  When I’m satisfied I’ve stirred enough,  . . I add in the Vanilla and stir  slightly again.  Please do use PURE, REAL VANILLA – not synthetic.  

Now comes the wrapping up process.   Made some just yesterday and already have my fermented veggies working in the pantry, on the floor in that Coleman lunch-box thing. . . so I put a really large bowl atop it, lined it w/quite a bit of newspaper. . . .set the crockpot inside its metal container,  atop the paper; covered with more layers of paper (who knows how much is enough?).  That won’t do it. . .got a woolen throw from my bed and wrapped that all around, oughtta do it. . . .   .   . but maybe not, it is so o o   cold now, so I put another, heavy knitted afghan atop all.  Quickly left the pantry and closed the door, as I’ve gone into conflict with all this indecision over how much  is enough!  arrgh. …     This turned out scrumptious in spite of me.  Incidentally, you don’t have to use honey or Vanilla!  The only thing I like better than honest to God Vanilla is the fabulous chocolate I buy at WILDERNESS FAMILY NATURALS.   I buy it online (just add .com to the name) by the 5# container and it is also “Fermented”. . .never had anything so good or so reasonably priced.  One might be able to add Stevia instead of other sweeteners.     . . .  . anway, hope some one will give this a go, it’s so good.          Jan

Tell the Truth about Bernie’s Health Care Stand

The Clinton campaign just made a serious mistake.

They sent Hillary and Bill Clinton’s daughter Chelsea out on behalf of her mother to bash Senator Bernie Sanders on the issue of health care.

What’s so wrong with that? Don’t all candidates use family surrogates when and where they can? The Kennedys, for example, deployed a horde of kinfolk for Jack’s campaign for president, then Bobby’s, then Teddy’s.

But when it’s the first time (as this was for Clinton the younger), the surrogate should be sure whereof she speaks, and had better stick to talking about her candidate, not the opponent. Unfortunately, Chelsea Clinton misrepresented Senator Sanders’ position, and her premiere performance on the stump backfired, producing a flood of political donations to Sanders.

Here’s what she said: “Senator Sanders wants to dismantle Obamacare, dismantle the [Children’s Health Insurance Program], dismantle Medicare, and dismantle private insurance.” Whew! She would have us believe that the Vermont senator is a one-man wrecking crew, an enraged King Kong – or, to be modern about it, a mendacious Darth Vader – proposing “to go back to an era – before we had the Affordable Care Act – that would strip millions and millions and millions of people off their health insurance.”

Uh, not exactly. In fact, not even close. As Karen Tumulty noted in The Washington Post, Bernie Sanders has long been a champion of a single-payer health care system as the only way to assure that all Americans receive medical coverage. Rather than “strip” millions and millions of people of their health insurance, he wants to be sure millions and millions of people actually get health insurance.

This was Sanders’ position as far back as 1993 when newly-elected President Bill Clinton put First Lady Hillary Clinton in charge of reforming our disheveled and unjust health care system. Her task force huffed and puffed in secret for months, calling in legions of experts and academics, ultimately producing a plan so complicated and impenetrable – not to mention unexplainable – that it would have collapsed of its own ponderous weight even if the Republicans had not propagandized it into a laughing stock of pretensions and inefficiencies that could only make matters worse.

And here’s an ironic note: During that 1993 quest for a health care plan, Secretary Clinton sent Sanders an autographed picture of the two of them, wishing him the best and thanking the senator “for your commitment to real health care access for all Americans.”

  • And look at former presidential candidate and single payer advocate Howard Dean, Bernie’s fellow Vermonter, who went on MSNBC this week and said that the Sanders plan “would in fact undo people’s health care… That is something people should be concerned about.”
  • Why the change of heart? Maybe because Dean “now serves as senior advisor to the law firm Dentons, where he works with the firm’s Public Policy and Regulation practice, a euphemism for Dentons’ lobbying team,” Lee Fang reports at The Intercept. “… The Dentons Public Policy and Regulation practice lobbies on behalf of a variety of corporate health care interests, including the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America [PhRMA], a powerful trade group for drugmakers like Pfizer and Merck.”

Fang notes that, “Incumbent health care interests, particularly drug companies and insurers, have long viewed single-payer as a threat to their business model,” and points to documents that we uncovered in 2009 on Bill Moyers Journal with the help of former health insurance executive, now whistleblower Wendell Potter. They showed a systematic plan by health insurers to discredit single payer.

  • As president of the Clinton Foundation, the richly endowed philanthropy that has become the family’s private station for public causes, Chelsea Clinton must know this. The cynic might think the more than $2.6 million given so far by the health industry to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and outside groups supporting her (three times that of any other candidate, Democrat or Republican) might be leading Chelsea Clinton to use the same kind of false accusations so long used against her parents. But why would any of the family, their campaign team, advisors and supporters assume that the public would accept such a wild and irresponsible distortion?

All these years later, Sanders is still fighting the battle for single payer, Medicare-like coverage for all, even as fellow Democrats capitulated to the siren songs of the health and insurance industries. President Obama, himself a one-time advocate of single payer coverage, buckled to the insurance companies and its lobbyists and minions in Congress and agreed to health care legislation (the Affordable Care Act) that would continue to treat healing the sick as a profit center instead of a basic human right.

My comment:      

Distorted lies coming from the Clinton Clan is really hard for me to take;    they are after all, one of our ‘royal families’ whom most still think of fondly.  It is really hard to witness this kind of deception.  Lying, bullying. . .rolling in the mud may be the usual M.O. for some of the Republican candidates, but it remains outside the bounds of decency and good taste, as I’m sure the few remaining ‘old guard’ of the GOP will attest.  

Perhaps Hillary really is in trouble  on this run, but how bitter will be the lingering taste in the mouth if she pursues these tactics?  People really should win or loose based on what  they are offering — not on trying to tear down the opponent in order to make themselves look better (or gain unwarranted advantage). But how futile this is,  people know who Bernie is  and can see this  for what it is  . . .  a desperate  ploy.  (tho unbelievable and unexpected)  Jan

Dr Clark on Food polarization

Previous readers knew that I greatly admired Dr. Hulda Clark  and have so for more than 20 years.  She has written books and gathered a loyal following all over the world.  She gladly shared her brilliant work and even taught in her books how to build many of her incredibly fine pieces of equipment which she dreamed up and designed for use  with her own patients.    Went thru a bad  patch when I first came to Ohio and some doctors had me pretty worried  about myself,    didn’t know what to do. Went into a local health-food store and bent the ear of a nice lady who after hearing me out, put Dr Clark’s book in my  hands and asked me to look it over.  Said it seems  to have  helped  a lot of people.  The title was a bit off-putting — “The Cure for All Disease”  (I’m a practical Virgo), but I was desperate for help.    Needless to  say,  it changed me. . .how I thought;   gave me true hope,  a purpose and “how to”  on almost anything I could think of.  I have posted endlessly on her and her methods and always recommend her books.  I couldn’t go to her clinic in Mexico, but she generously spoke with me when I called her, and it helped. She was a dear, sainted woman for whom I will alway be grateful.  Those with whom she worked so closely, continue her work since she died.   I wanted to share this link with those of you who may be working on any of a variety  of problems, get her book as I did, or even reach out to this  Information Center. . .all really great people willing to assist.  

I tried to build a Zapper from the instructions in her book I mentioned.  Had to get a young man with a good mind and electrical knowledge to do it right for me.  Used it for years.  Worked fine.  But then I bought one of hers.  Now of course, they are even fancier and one can program them to combat specific diseases. etc.  This would be another of those  good reference sources you might want to consider subscribing to . .  .  .  .     .       just saying’, . . . .Jan

Why does fresh food have a north polarization

The market in Barcelona has a great variety of fruits and vegetables of incredible colors, as you can see from the photo I personally took.

While it is the phenolic substances that give color and taste to our food, unfortunately they can also stimulate an allergic reaction in our bodies, as explained in our previous e-news.  There can be various reasons for our body having an allergic reaction to a phenolic substance. It can be caused by how the product was cultivated, harvested, how it was made to ripen or how it was cooked. Or simply because it is a natural part of the food as explained in the previous e-news.

Another very important aspect when talking about intolerances or allergic reaction is the polarization.
Fruit and vegetables, flowers and leaves, nuts and grains, all have a north polarization when they are freshly picked, except the seed, which has a south polarization.

This has been investigated by Dr. Clark. Fresh food freshly picked from the vegetable garden and tested with the Syncrometer has a north polarization.
North polarization turns slowly south as the food (even if it is organic) grows old, and thischange occurs iindependently from preserving it in the fridge or out in the open. Dr. Clark was of the idea  that the majority of our food as well as our water, should have a north polarization, with only a small quantity in the form of seeds, having a south polarization.

Food that is old, food that has been preserved, food that is packaged, food that contains metals, solvents, pesticides and laundry bleach all have a south polarization.

FRESH FOOD GIVES OUR BODY THE CORRECT POLARIZATION AND THE NECESSARY FORM OF NUTRIENTS

Dr. Clark said that today we are receiving an overdose of south polarized food and water  and that such food fills us with PGE2 and therefore our organs get inflammed opening the door of our cells  to bacteria, viruses and sicknesses.

Why should we avoid products with  triclosan?

Triclosan is a common antibacterial agent used in toothpastes, soaps, washes and cosmetics. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), see their articlehere,  say that triclosan is not known to be hazardous to humans, but lately this ingredient has been reviewed. FDA is reviewing all of the available evidence on this ingredient’s safety in consumer products but the sole fact that they have found this chemical in the blood and urine samples of teenager girls, is not a comforting thought. It is now a proven fact that triclosan not only increases resistance to bacteria, but that it also alters hormone regulation in animal studies.

As the Scientific American Com reports in the article below , they have found an accumulation of triclosan in one third of the tested bottlenose dolphins off the coast of South Carolina and one fourth of the dolphins tested in Florida.

Studies on bullfrogs showed that triclosandisrupts the hormonal system blocking the tadpole’s development into frogs.

This is shocking news even though quite expected if we think that 76% of soaps in the USA contain triclosan and 350 tons of it are used in Europe in commercial products. Three quarters of people tested in the USA have triclosan in their urine and has been found in breast milk of Swedish women. You will  find the complete article here.
study  reported that triclosan has been found in human plasma and breast milk in higher concentrations in those mothers that used personal care products containing triclosan compared to those that did not.
At this link you can read   the disturbing news that over 95% of triclosan ends up in our waters for the fact that the water treatment plants do not remove it. This can end up in the production of dioxin and resistant-bacteria populations.
Triclosan has also been found to be highly toxic to different types of algae and is therefore responsible for “the destruction of the balance of the ecosystem.“ Researchers in Sweden found high levels of triclosan present in the bile of fish in Sweden. Saliva testing

We understand that not everone has a naturopath or doctor close to them who is experienced at bio feedback testing such as with Dr. Hulda Clark’s Syncrometer.  However Dr. Clark said that to have such a test, it is not necessary to be physically present. A saliva sample is sufficient. Not only can your saliva be tested, but you can also test your drinking water,  body-care products, house dust and the saliva of your pet for the presence of parasites, bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, etc.

I tell you the story of my cat Oliver, a cat of the forests of Norway.
In August I notice that something is wrong with him.. he is drinking too much. The veterinarian tells me that it is a serious kidney failure and that he suspects cancer and that he has 4 to 5 months to live.I bring my cat to another clinic where they are less pessimists, but they let me know that the situation is nonetheless serious.
They do infusions and other things.Saturday he seemed very bad.. he was not drinking at all and he doesn’t get up anymore and I believed he was at the end.
I attach him to the zapper and do the frequencies of kidneys and the driver for the kidneys.
After a couple of hours he gets up and eat nearly two whole bowls.
He wants to go outside. We are amazed!

Know what’s in VACCINES

If You Have Children

Any household interested in the welfare of children, should already be motivated to stay abreast of what VACCINES are about.  It pays to do your due diligence, for the fate of the future of our species can be at stake here.  I’ve been on this for years, probably because I seem to have a kind of ‘earth-mother’ complex, can’t help myself.  One of these days, somebody with a lot more clout than I could ever have will realize that what is happening to thousands of children (in the name of health-care) is more than simple error or misdirection; it is cruel and should be criminal (actually, it is criminal, but AMA and BIG PhRMA are getting away  with it — no matter how much damage they do to us and our kids.  They have total immunity from any liability whatsoever – – with regard to immunization vaccines.)  With every shot, our  little  one’s health is being forever changed, often ruined from the first shot;   normal expectations become unrealistic and coping with the results are such an impossible burden to the families whose  chances for happiness and normalcy are destroyed.    

The majority of  hard-pressed families aren’t on the  internet or seeking information  on blogs  like mine for advice.  The doctors they go to pretty much follow  the “program” or suffer consequences.  So how do people  know what to believe about some of the ‘things’ they hear.  Our culture has always trusted, if not revered our doctors.  In this age of materialism, however, nothing like that is any longer warranted.  Kids still want to grow up and become a doctor based on desire to heal, help others.  But getting thru medical school today no longer has much  relationship to that original calling.  Big Phrma controls the learning schedule and tosses away most of the value from the  past.  It has become a pill for every pain and patients become captive for  life,  never getting better but loaded  with new problems from all the meds (toxic, generally because of  being chemical)  rather than natural and seeking causes to correct naturally.  Healthy bodies generally don’t get sick.  Our world is polluted,  our waters, food, soil and  plants we eat – all suffering the same fate. . .everything is chemicals including most meds.  This isn’t what  our bodies were constructed to survive on,  so does its darndest to eliminate (further taking its own energies unnecessarily to do) instead of  concentrating on normal, usual duties.

Why does (USA) take orders from the WTO 

We are a sovereign nation, total and complete within ourselves!  Between our Bill of Rights and (seemingly) inspired Constitution, we have all we need to  be able to run a sound government and have an ethical code of behavior for the rest of us to use in order to live peacefully together.   Mostly, it  works, guaranteeing  ALL  many rights and freedoms to  which we mostly are-fondly-attached.  When  routine, normal rules and laws are denied to any of us.. .we will rebel, rise up, coalesce and come together to protect ourselves.  Through proper mechanisms. . . justice will almost always  prevail.  (almost  I say – because  we are only human . . we aren’t perfected yet).  By  and large on paper – if not actually, . . .IT WORKS  –  as we have been the “Ideal”  other nations point to, admire and want to emulate.  On paper, it IS good here.  

What doesn’t ‘show’ in all  the above description is the elevation of the power of the MEGA BUCKS to make the choices we used to make ourselves – – BY OUR VOTES personally, to the best of our ability to do.  We knew it was important, because it was OUR COUNTRY   – –   O U R S !   Having this stake came with responsibility to do so;  by and large we did for a great many years.    Laws started to change as huge corporate structures were successful in cleverly aligning the  lawmakers to their  priorities in a very propitious manner benefiting them both.  Over the last several decades  we have been realizing that no matter how we vote, who we put into office nor what they promised while running for office, our constituency needs weren’t being met or listened to.   Everybody likes to say Washington is ‘broken’ . . . but is that really what it is?  Isn’t it more like corruption?      

Read your Bible,  or seek answers from God (by whatever name you call him/her). . . the fault lies in what the heart cherishes. .  .  or mind, as the case may be. It seems that in many,  the heart seems heavily crusted over with crass materialism.  .  .  which stated bluntly, is just G R E E D .  Somehow, we gotta get the reigns back in our hands and eliminate the death-grip the Corporate structure has on our legislative process.  Perhaps we actually DO need to tighten regulatory restrictions in order  to restore balance.  

Between  GMO’s,  Agribusiness and BIG PhRMA,  it is amazing perhaps that we have any degree of health at all – – for we are what we eat. Today, what most of us are eating and ingesting one way or another is anything but healthy.  The experts confuse us and rarely agree on anything, leaving us scratching our heads on how and what to eat to really BE healthy.  ORGANIC is the natural state of food occurring as nature intended.  When I was born, grew up, married and raised a family, organic was never discussed as  it  would never have occurred to anyone to use that term.  Why would they?   Food was food, and it was good.  Most everybody was healthy, barring accidents.   Of course, the middle class was the biggest and were proud,  productive and able to buy modest homes and provide for good lives. Stuff Changes. Now, unless one buys organic and eats mostly raw, there isn’t too much chance for decent health.  Eating processed anything is NOT healthy.  But our class is struggling  to even be in the middle class. . .few can afford raw or organic, for money is scarce and there are many bellies to feed.  These are part of the reasons that Vilsack’s Agriculture gets all  those subsidized arrangements to grow wheat and corn and soy (ALL GMO and therefore, not healthy), because we can more cheaply feed the hungry masses.   What a solution!    

I have a few ideas which maybe could bring some  positive changes.     How about changing rules and laws on those huge corporate structures who have made their fortunes here, but over the last few decades have closed-up shop and shutdown factories  and sent the jobs overseas leaving industries and workers of those industries  – I dunno,   up-a-tree or sold-down-the-river,  your choice of words for the concept.   But then, they remain here and send all income earned by their operations offshore anywhere else other than here.  PAY NO  TAXES.  Is that Okay?  Ethical?   In my mind it never will be.    When my HP died, I got a MAC mini. Did you see “60 Minutes” recently?  Had a big story on Apple.   Was an eye-opener!  ALL the labor force other than the big brain department (design etc) is done  overseas and resources sent to the Cayman Islands.  Does this bother me?  As soon as I get it paid off, I’m getting rid of it and then buying an American made  – built-in-USA computer.   Yeah, it bothers me. . . so much  for those who used America to grow a healthy business, using our people, roads, ethical practices and all the other advantages of living here.  Then to save money sends jobs abroad >  to save even more money, . . income offshore.

Many of us have figured out what seems to be wrong with being blessed with living in this glorious country. The “law” seems to be  applied indiscriminately to the enormously wealthy while acerbically harsher to the lower classes.  (Like in the case of America’s near melt-down  in 2008 that Obama inherited,  of the total financial condition of our banking system and taking us all with it much like the days of the Great Depression in 1929.  It wreaked great harm on our people,  losing everything from homes, kid’s college plans and placed inordinate burdens on all to pull us out of this hell.  The games these banking geniuses were playing would never have been allowed  if Clinton had not  relaxed the rules and deleted others.   It started there, but our form of justice allowed the slate to be cleansed with huge fines and no one was prosecuted.  Rules were not corrected – we’re still talking about it.  None of the heads of all those banks went to jail.  In fact, most have greatly increased their sizes and growth, in volume and financial strength once again and still getting away with their ‘games’).  Yet regular kids can spend years in jail due to being found possessing drugs. . . not hurting anyone.  But, what do I know?

Hard to digest if indeed, we are all equal under the law.  So there is that.  A little bit of “ditto” with regard to science.  Open minds (only) can survive in science where facts speak for themselves by evidence thru trial and effort and error leading to evidence. With Pharmaceuticals, claims are made for safety, but only claims are necessary . accepted by FDA,  put on market subjecting millions to risk, loss and death.  It happens  daily; the injuries, the addictions,  needless death.   Only after too much carnage  does the  truth ‘sometimes’ come to light.  Trials were skewed; (some scientists were walking away because of the skewed efforts to which they couldn’t put their name lest they be associated with it);  products withdrawn.  And yet these same corporations have no legal liability for they have been protected by faulty legal decisions which they continue to operate under.  No part of it fair or ethical,  tho said to be legal. .  . so there is also that.  But mandating that all kids be vaccinated or be shunned by the school system, many, many doctors now demanding that children be vaccinated or seek doctoring elsewhere.  This overrides (nullifies) parental rights;  endangers children, and rates of autism and neurological damage is every where and still growing, leaving parents with often no where to go, no options. And no recourse.  Just some fluke of fate?  Can’t  wrap my mind around that.

Not carping here because I’m just a negative person — I’m not.  I see solutions everywhere that massive amounts of money could be SAVED.  Expand Social Security to everyone – cradle to grave, no more insurance to deal with.  Stop  worrying so much about pharmaceuticals;  in most cases – completely unnecessary.  BIG PhRMA is new on the scene, but oh,  how fast they  have taken over and somehow grown the moxie to claim total ownership of anything remotely associated with bringing about healing in any form.  Its their way or NO way. So unrealistic.  Healing has been going on for as long as man has been on earth (guess thats around 5000 years now, right?). . .or it it 500 million years? oh well, what does that matter?  just more words. Holistic or Naturopathic physicians still value nature’s yield and bounty and seem to understand fully the indisputable relationship of man to nature and the relevance of the totality to health.  Never tire of restating Hippocrates, the father of medicine’s  oft repeated words. . . “let food be thy medicine, and medicine, thy food.”  If only. . . .   .      

Then moving on to the food;  Every effort should be made to insure that food be grown in the most natural, chemical-free method  imaginable.  So if we eliminate the  chemicals  in RX meds,  attack the pollution on farming and allow farmers to get back to growing stuff like they used  to – organically!  IMAGINE THAT!  If everybody starts getting healthy by simply eating well, there won’t be any necessity for meds at all. Or perhaps I should say, very little.  Who  wouldn’t choose to be well if they just knew how.  How about stopping with  GMO everything and magically increase our chance at health? No need to  give all those subsidies  to GMO garbage no one actually wants.  How about helping out the organic guys – – they’re working hard and earn little more than the  sweat off their brow.  That could be a true help.

I don’t eat much  meat as it is because I can’t afford it.  And I read the labels, my beef must be free range and grass fed right up to slaughter.  Stopped eating most everything from lakes, rivers or oceans (and I love it all) because all the  waters are so contaminated now and I wouldn’t consider frankenfish.  Without labels I can positively trust,  I will now, no longer buy any animal products.   I’ll miss them and rue the day my government allowed this to happen.  I fear this is the same ole,  same ole  – – GREED,  as in government corruption!  When did we cede these CHOICES to some foreign  authority and why?   I think a lot of us would be willing to go to war  over this.  I never gave consent and won’t accept it.  This ruling protects only those who need darkness to survive, . . the corporate structure  It has nothing whatever to do with protecting people  or their health, . . .in fact, its gonna hurt us all. . . .       .        .    goodnite,   Jan

Amid pressure, U.S. guts meat-labeling law

WASHINGTON — It’s now harder to find out where your beef or pork was born, raised and slaughtered.After more than a decade of wrangling, Congress repealed a labeling law last month that required retailers to include the animal’s country of origin on packages of red meat. It’s a major victory for the meat industry, which had fought the law in Congress and the courts since the early 2000s.

  • Lawmakers said they had no choice but to get rid of the labels after the World Trade Organization repeatedly ruled against them. The WTO recently authorized Canada and Mexico, which had challenged the law, to begin more than $1 billion in economic retaliation against the United States.
  • “U.S. exporters can now breathe a sigh of relief,” said Republican Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas, chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee. The longtime opponent of the labels helped add the repeal to a massive year-end spending bill. After the law was passed, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said the government immediately would stop requiring the labels.

Consumer groups say the repeal is a disappointment just as consumers are asking for more information on their food packages. Advocates say the labels help people make more-informed buying decisions and encourage purchases of American meat.

Before repeal, the labels told shoppers that a particular cut of meat was “born in Canada, raised and slaughtered in the United States” or “born, raised and slaughtered in the United States.” Congress first required the labels in 2002 amid fears of mad cow disease from imported cattle.

  • Consumer groups criticized Congress for repealing the law for ground meat and pork in addition to the fresh cuts of meat that were the subject of WTO concerns.

The bill was “a holiday gift to the meatpacking industry from Congress,” complained the advocacy group Food and Water Watch. Meatpackers who buy Mexican cattle were some of the law’s most aggressive opponents.

The repeal also was a big defeat for lawmakers from northern border states where U.S. ranchers compete with Canadian ranchers. Those lawmakers insisted on including the labeling in the 2002 and 2008 farm bills and this year fought to replace it with a voluntary program once the WTO rulings came down.

  • Roger Johnson of the National Farmers Union, which has strong membership in those states, said the group was “furious” about the repeal.

“Packers will be able to once again deliberately deceive consumers,” Johnson said.

Still, there was some good news for food-labeling advocates in the bill. Despite an aggressive push by the food industry, lawmakers decided not to add language that would have blocked mandatory labeling of genetically modified ingredients.
