Common knee surgery iffy

New from Dr Mercola this day. . . another  (usually) needless  surgery.

Another Study Finds Arthroscopic Knee Surgery No Better Than Sham Surgery

arthroscopic knee surgeryStudies Now Show This Popular Surgery Is Often No Better Than a Sham arthroscopic knee surgery
If your doctor suggests this surgery, show him these 4 opposing studies and save yourself the risks, money, lost work and lost play. Because it’s been busted – 4 times now!

Knee Surgery

Story at-a-glance

  • A recent study found arthroscopic knee surgery for degenerative meniscal tears had no more benefit than “sham surgery”
  • Four studies over the last decade cast doubt on whether arthroscopic knee surgery is offering any real benefits to knee pain sufferers
  • Harnessing the power of placebo, along with adopting a disease-preventing lifestyle, is a more effective approach to treating common knee pain
  • Appropriate exercise is key to preventing and relieving most knee pain by strengthening your joint and its supportive structures, improving flexibility, and helping to optimize body weight
  • A number of supplements are particularly helpful, such as vitamin D, MSM, astaxanthin, turmeric, and several others

    • Makenzie. . .seems I may have knocked your comment off (accidentally), but wanted to acknowledge that you were kind enough to make a comment. This post goes back a few years, yet little has changed. I keep learning of the (often) futility of surgeries for the pain people experience. But then I also hear of these injuries from my son whose business entails working with sports; the athletes, teams and especially kids — because if the youngsters can be trained in correct movement techniques, the injuries dramatically diminish. My son’s site is http://www.Fit2Play.com and there is always something interesting there to mull over and even incorporate into one’s life.

Since I am deeply opposed to pain, I have found a myriad of ways to live without it. . .all done without OTC stuff or anything at all pharmaceutical. We can all learn something about body movement and posture – simple stuff (especially sitting wrong or too long with out breaks). One might be surprised to learn that bad habits can start in the crib with the way we bind babies up to protect them. Did a post called “BABY-SLEEP, CONTROVERSY Feb 16, 2016. . .ya might check it out. Wanted to mention the author I was referencing in that post was Kathleen Porter and her excellent book is NATURAL POSTURE for Pin-Free Living. This is a book which is in a great many sports-medicine doctor’s as her book and its contents are so forward thinking and scientifically based. Easy to read – and ground breaking. . .just sayin’ anyway, thanks for stopping in and sharing a thought with me. Jan
