SCOTUS Hero – force of 1

WASHINGTON

Ginsburg says she has no plans to retire from court

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

At age 80, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, leader of the U.S. Supreme Court’s liberal wing, says she is in excellent health, even lifting weights despite having cracked a pair of ribs again, and plans to stay several more years on the bench.

In an interview with Reuters, she vowed to resist any pressure to retire that might come from liberals who want to ensure that Democratic President Barack Obama can pick her successor before the November 2016 presidential election.

Ginsburg said she had fallen in the bathroom of her home in early May, sustaining the same injury she suffered last year near term’s end.

“I knew immediately what it was this time,” she said, adding that there was nothing to do but take painkillers and wait out the six weeks as her ribs healed.

Ginsburg, who survived two bouts with cancer, in 1999 and 2009, is keeping up a typically busy summer of travel, beginning next week with a trip to Paris. Ginsburg said she was back to her usual weight-lifting routine and recently had good results from a bone-density scan.

Supreme Court justices are appointed for life.

(My comment:

Of course this lady is another “Hero” of mine – - look at the job she is doing!  A remarkable woman.

I am still wagging my head over the other two female justices appointed by Obama;  they could have easily been appointed by Nixon or Bush, per the reflection of the job they are doing.   I am not entirely wigged out over Sonia Sotomayor, but when does she start reflecting her past strengths on which she was so admired?

And when will Elena Kagen stop recusing herself and step aside from the old boy’s club?  What happens to people once they don a robe?  There was no one smarter than Elena.

A further aside:  one wonders if Ruthie’s physician has her on calcium in some (any) description?  One could hope not, but “Twice” with broken ribs?   Let’s do something for her – - we need her to last as long as she wishes.      I had in mind  a united effort – - we could all chant or imagine  “A GREEN SMOOTHIE” daily for her.   Aughta do it!   Jan)
